A MAN has been jailed for 21 months over a killing in Thornhill Lees that resulted from the throwing of just one punch.
Mohammed Nazakat Alam, 24, pleaded guilty at Leeds Crown Court to the manslaughter of Jack Carter in Victoria Road.
Alam, of Beckett Lane, Dewsbury Moor, will have his sentence cut by 124 days due to time already served in custody.
Co-accused Nisar Shah, 40, got a six-month jail term suspended for two years, plus 120 hours of community work for assault.
Shah, formerly of Victoria Road, denied manslaughter but admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm for his role in the attack.
Both defendants were originally charged with murder, but pleas to charges of assault and manslaughter were accepted by the prosecution.

One of the group, Alam, then punched Mr Carter who had been watching.
Shah then came out of his house and stood on Mr Carter’s head,Notice he played no part in anything, no racial abuse, no violence he merely watched.
